《幸福》的故事发生在九十年代中期，南方某小城市，一座简陋的民房里，16岁的女孩晓雯和弟弟在做饭等候着他们的爸爸下班回家，45岁的罗志刚，是市一家工厂的工人，十年前妻子因故去世，他为了孩子一直没有再婚，带着一儿一女靠着微薄的工资过日子。这天他却心情沉重的带着两个更小的孩子回来。原来，他下岗了。祸不单行，罗志刚的妹妹妹夫二人意外身亡，令他不得不收养留下的两个孩子。本就生活困难的一家三口这下日子过得更加紧张，好在罗志刚又找到了一份不错的工作，这时意外发生了，他被车撞了成了植物人。
